About | Kimberly N. Moreno

Kimberly N. Moreno is the founding attorney of Moreno Family Law, LLC in Parker, Colorado, where she has dedicated her entire legal career to family law. Known for being a zealous and deeply committed advocate, Kim represents clients throughout the Denver metropolitan area in divorce, child custody, domestic violence matters, property division, spousal maintenance, parental rights, and post-decree modifications. She has been practicing family law since 2015 and brings over 10 years of experience — across both Massachusetts and Colorado — to every case she handles.

Kim represents clients in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, El Paso, Elbert and Summit Counties.

Background

Kim is a Massachusetts native who earned her B.A. in Psychology from Simmons University in Boston before going on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School. From the very beginning of her legal career, her focus was family law — and more specifically, giving people a voice in a legal system that can feel overwhelming and inaccessible.

After graduating law school, Kim began her career at DOVE, Inc., a multidisciplinary domestic violence organization in Massachusetts, where she worked directly with survivors of domestic violence on high-conflict custody disputes, child support, parenting time, contempt hearings, and removal cases. This work — representing people in some of the most dangerous and vulnerable circumstances a family can face — shaped the kind of attorney she became.

She went on to practice at Sugarman, Rogers, Barshak and Cohen, P.C. in Boston, one of the region's well-regarded family law firms, where she handled cases involving complex asset division and discovery disputes. After relocating to Colorado with her husband, Kim continued building her family law practice, working at several established Colorado firms — including Plog & Stein and Divorce Matters in Greenwood Village, and the Law Office of Alexandra White in Centennial — before founding Moreno Family Law, LLC.

She was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2015 and the Colorado Bar in 2019.

How Kim Works With Clients

Kim has always believed the legal system should be there for the people who need it most. That belief is not abstract for her — it is the reason she chose this work and the reason she founded her own firm.

She is a direct and thorough advocate. She takes time to understand what each client actually wants out of their case — not just the legal outcome, but what their life needs to look like on the other side of it. From there, she lays out their options clearly, explains the likely outcomes, and builds a strategy around their goals. Clients know where they stand with Kim. She keeps them informed, prepared, and supported throughout the process.

Her approach combines genuine empathy with sharp legal preparation. She is not someone who backs down when a case requires a fight, and she is not someone who escalates unnecessarily when resolution is within reach. That balance — knowing when to push and when to settle — is one of the things clients and colleagues consistently respect about her.

Domestic Violence and High-Conflict Cases

A defining thread throughout Kim's career has been her work with survivors of domestic violence. Long before she had a law degree, she understood that domestic violence cases require more than legal knowledge — they require an attorney who can remain steady, strategic, and protective under pressure.

Kim is experienced in helping clients obtain protection orders, navigate high-conflict custody situations involving abuse or coercive control, and build legal frameworks that prioritize safety for both parents and children. She understands that these cases rarely follow a simple path, and she brings the patience and preparation they demand.

Her background also makes her well-equipped for cases where one party is using the legal process itself as a tool of control — prolonging proceedings, creating unnecessary conflict, or weaponizing custody disputes. Kim knows how to recognize these dynamics and respond to them effectively.

Divorce and Complex Financial Cases

Kim's practice includes the full range of divorce matters — from straightforward uncontested divorces to cases involving significant marital estates, business ownership interests, retirement accounts, and disputed property. Her time at Sugarman, Rogers, Barshak and Cohen gave her early experience with complex discovery and financial disputes, and she has continued to handle financially intricate cases throughout her Colorado practice.

She also represents clients in collaborative divorce, same-sex divorce, and military divorce — each of which carries its own procedural and legal considerations that require an attorney who is familiar with the specifics.
